What is EVA—and why do we require testing?
Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA) is a contagious viral disease that can be carried by stallions without obvious clinical signs. While many horses never appear ill, stallions may become long-term carriers, capable of shedding the virus through semen.
Because EVA can be transmitted during breeding and through semen handling, testing is an important biosecurity step—especially in a breeding facility environment.
At Stallion Repro Services, we require stallions to be tested for EVA prior to arrival to help protect:
• other stallions in the facility
• visiting horses
• mare owners and breeding programs
This policy allows us to maintain a safe, responsible, and well-managed breeding environment for everyone involved.
If you have questions about testing requirements or need guidance before shipping your stallion, we’re happy to help.
