Bill Gates is warning that the next pandemic could be even worse, and says the only way to stop it is through a new global surveillance system paired with faster vaccine development.

In a new interview, Gates argued for constant monitoring, including sewage surveillance and tracking people with respiratory infections to quickly identify new threats. According to him, the world still hasn’t “come together” to build this system, and he says recent DOGE and Trump-era funding cuts have slowed those plans down.

His message is clear: more surveillance, more funding, and quicker rollout of drugs and vaccines when the next outbreak hits. Critics are already asking where public health ends and mass monitoring begins, and who controls the data once such a system exists.
