In 1994, I curated a compilation CD entitled Hotel Massachusetts, released on my old label, Chunk Records, in the Spring of 1994. It's a warts and all portrait of a scene, described in a now-deleted Wikipedia entry: "Hotel Massachusetts is a 1994 Chunk Records release compiling songs by some of the musical acts featured regularly at the Bay State Hotel, a now-defunct Northampton, Massachusetts venue, booked and MC'd by Chunk founder Mal Thursday. Its 23 tracks are notable for not only capturing a cross-section of the Northampton indie rock scene of the early 1990s, but for including rare tracks by then- or later-famous acts such as Sebadoh, Silver Jews, Lyres, and New Radiant Storm King." Not to mention such Bay State regulars as The Unband, Ray Mason Band, and Zeke Fiddler. Now, with still enough room for a couple of last-minute additions, here are the tracks on the long-promised disc two (running order subject to change): 1. SPOUSE: Long Live the Bay State (demo) 2. AMANDA'S DIRTY SECRET: Vietnamese Half-Sister 15. RIBBON CANDY: Marzipan 16. FLYCATCHER: This Wreck 17. THE MARSHES: I Am Providence (demo) 18. NAG NAG NAG: Chara 19.
