The four winds rearrange me constantly:
North unraveling what I thought I knew,
South awakening old fire,
East whispering of paths not yet walked,
West burying things that still breathe.

The wheel accelerates,
until the colors of the four seasons
blur into monochrome.
Within that turning, early Autumn’s orange flares once;
a brief signal on an old map,
here and gone.
The fire shatters darkness just for a moment,
then retreats
to its steady burn.

Through the moon’s four faces,
she is trying to decipher it:
New, half, full, gone,
yet always returning,
just as I do.

All of the universe’s fours well up in my chest,
into the chambers of my human heart,
Beating with seasons,
and the wind,
and moon-cycle —
facets of the same whole,
each of everything drawn, inexplicably,
to the same place
where only the stars remember.

Introducing my newest (and I think most favorite thus far) artwork, “Still, the Heart”.
I’ve recently been ruminating on the connectedness through the recurring pattern of fours found throughout our reality: the four chambers of the heart, brain, limbs, the elements, seasons, directions, tides, winds, blood types, nucleotides, and even the structure of many plants. It goes on.

Even the cosmos organizes parts of itself in fours-
as if the universe, too, needs four chambers
to keep its heart beating. ♥️

Four is the number of wholeness through balance—
not stasis, but circulation;
not perfection, but endurance. I find this repeated pattern incredibly sacred. 🙏

Created to accompany my poem “Fourfold”, this work places the human heart as a microcosm of the natural world, moving through loss, change, and life’s enduring cycles.
