You should have told the masses to eat pie. In my not so humble pie opinion, there couldn’t possibly be a more satisfying food. What other food can combine all food groups in a single serving? s spanned generations in my family. My mother, a diabetic, would risk a coma to have that creamy slice of custard pie she coveted (we do not recommend for anyone to do the same) . My grandfather was known to hide the last piece of Banoffee or Treacle Pie my grandmother made from the rest of the family; down in his basement workshop. My grandparents, reserved, stiff upper lipped, British immigrants, could get emotional over pie. I have memories of my parents sitting at a table with their close friends Joe & Wendy at the nearby pie restaurant for hours over slices of pie, strong coffee and good conversation. My sister and I would be at home, foraging for ourselves in jealous teenage angst. Didn’t they know we wanted pie too? I can’t blame any of them in retrospect. If I wasn’t making pies on a daily basis, I would hoard the last piece too. Quite possibly even from my own children. Even you don’t need to go down the path of self righteous pie hoarding. Nor do you have to deny yourself a slice of creamy, dreamy, gooey, flaky or crunchy, out of this world deliciousness (or a whole pie for that matter, if so inclined). Have no worries. I had spent over twenty years in the tedious banking industry, but never felt fulfilled (surprising, I know). In my free time, I was a closet foodie. Let’s be frank: I’m a food geek.
