But wait: CalMaine, a giant company that produces 20% of U.S. eggs,just posted a quarterly profit of $507 million, more than three times the profit it made last year at the same time. —And collected millions in government subsidies to help them do that. Stockholders are paying $5 for eggs, but they have their government-subsidized stock profits to handle that.
