It's with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of our co-founder Robert "Big Guy", Bob Segel, who passed away this weekend at 84 years old. Uncle Bobby as we referred to him as was the guiding force and vision for starting Mr.Sid.
As a teenager, he discovered his passion for men’s clothing while working at Browning King, a path that led him into the family business. He graduated from Newton High School and Boston University and after college, he joined the family clothing store, Mr. Sid, in Newton Centre, helping expand the business with his late brother Ira. He later moved to Southern California, where he opened his own men’s clothing store in Newport Beach and worked as a representative for fine menswear throughout the West Coast. He was known for his love of bonsai gardening, tropical fish, travel, swimming, fine food, and wine, and for faithfully sending funny birthday cards to the many people he met throughout his life. Big Guy Bob was larger in appearance but even had a bigger gregarious personality. He was loved by so many friends colleagues and of course his family. He will be missed by all that knew him. May his memory be a blessing.
