The ReFill
06/02/2026
It is with a heavy heart that I share that The ReFill will be closing its doors at the end of this month.
Four years ago, I opened this little store with a big dream: to make high-quality, sustainable cleaning and personal care products accessible to our community while helping people reduce waste by refilling containers they already owned.
I opened The ReFill because I saw a need. I wanted a different way to shop for my own family—one that created less waste and felt more thoughtful. I believed that if I wanted that option, others might want it too.
And many of you did.
We grew slowly—very slowly—but steadily. Month by month and year by year, more people discovered us. We advertised, attended farmers markets, and relied heavily on word of mouth. We were never a business that generated large profits, but we were able to keep going: paying the bills, restocking our shelves, expanding our inventory, and continuing to serve our customers.
For a long time, that was enough.
Over the past eight months, however, things have changed significantly. We have seen a noticeable decline in both foot traffic and sales. While small businesses like ours remain an important part of local communities, competing with the pricing, convenience, and scale of large retailers has become increasingly difficult. Without a larger customer base to sustain us, the economics simply no longer work.
There's a saying about museums: everyone wants one in their town, but not enough people actually go. In some ways, that's how it has felt to run a refill store. Many people love the idea of having one nearby, but too few shop often enough to keep it alive.
That said, my overwhelming feeling is gratitude.
To every customer who made the extra effort to shop local, refill a bottle, try something new, or simply stop in to say hello—thank you. Your support meant more than you know. Over these four years, I have had countless wonderful conversations, made genuine connections, and had the privilege of getting to know many of you personally. Those relationships have been the very best part of this journey, and they are what I will miss most.
Our final day will be Sunday, June 28.
Until then, I hope you'll stop by and help us close this chapter well. We still have inventory to sell, and it is important to us that we do so responsibly. We would love to find homes for our products, fixtures, shelving, furniture, and décor rather than see them go to waste. Everything in the store is available for purchase.
Thank you for believing in this little store and for being part of its story. It has been an honor to serve this community.
With gratitude,
xo
