NCPP is a grassroots, community-based initiative teaching photography and community activism to local youth to achieve a greater understanding of their community through creativity. Mission Statement – Newburgh Community Photo Project (NCPP) is a grassroots community-based photography educational program whose mission is to engage local youth on topics of national interest that relate directly to
their communities and ultimately empower them to utilize photography to advocate for change in their own lives and the lives of their communities. Program Description – NCPP is a volunteer-run arts organization that teaches young adults the conception, development, organization, and presentation of photography installations and public art projects. Together as a community, NCPP and participants will explore a broad spectrum of photography including visual arts, documentary, portraiture and photojournalism. Topics will cover gun violence, economic and political empowerment, gender issues, voting rights and registration, community policing, immigration, housing, and clean water. Educational programming will be organized around issues to encourage empathy and understanding among people who are different from one another to break down barriers and advocate for the rights of all residents to envision a future and participate in the political and economic progress of the City of Newburgh. Target audience – NCPP’s primary audience are young-adults, ages 15-25. A deliberate outreach will solicit the participation from family, local residents, businesses and organizations, artists, government officials, police and fire departments. Many young adults in Newburgh have little access to economic revitalization and political decision-making processes in the community. Fiscal Sponsorship – PROOF: Media for Social Justice will be the fiscal sponsor for NCPP. PROOF (New York State registration #?) is a registered 501(c)3, not-for-profit educational charity based in New York City that uses visual storytelling and education on human rights issues to inspire action to create and influence attitude and policy change.
