Join us August 9th! Our next community dialogue for the NJ Monuments to Migration and Labor project will focus on Asian American workers. Help tell the story of how immigrants have helped build this great state. Participants’ input will inform the creation of three monument installations that honor our diverse heritages.

Monuments to Migration and Labor has launched! We are proud to announce a statewide public humanities and art initiative funded by the Mellon Foundation’s Monuments Project. Check out our new website! https://njmml.com/

Over the next two years, we will work with collaborators and communities across New Jersey to design and install public art and monuments that honor the essential contributions of immigrant and migrant laborers, past and present. In a moment when migrant histories are often marginalized or erased, this project aims to reclaim public spaces and spark new conversations about labor, migration, and belonging.

Through community dialogues, art-making workshops, and public events, the team will surface stories from the state reflecting resilience, struggle, and transformation. In response to these conversations, original works of art will be created, culminating in monument installations across Southern, Central, and Northern New Jersey by 2026.

We invite you to join us in this collective effort to reimagine how public spaces can reflect more inclusive, truthful narratives.
