Newark Museum Explorers Program

n about their passions and strengths, and discover new skills as public speakers, teachers, researchers and leaders. The three to four year curriculum is designed to challenge students by rotating them throughout different areas of the museum. Explorers participate in professional development workshops that focus on leadership training, public speaking, team-building exercises, museum-based art and science projects, and field trips. The Program requires a commitment of six-hours after-school, 30 hours of community service, and 25 hours per week in the summer over a three to four year span. Since the Program began 22 years ago, more than 270 students have graduated from the Explorers Program. Over the past 10 years, 100% of students graduating from the Program attended institutions of higher education. The Program has expanded its reach by accepting freshmen beginning Summer 2017.
