Where in the world is Flag 168? With Mariam Naseem onboard PONANT EXPLORATIONS’s Le Commandant Charcot in Antarctica 🇦🇶

With support from a PONANT EXPLORATIONS Science Expedition Grant, Mariam Naseem and Marc Neveu collected thirteen deep seawater and sea ice fluid samples in Antarctica, using Earth’s polar oceans as a window into the hidden oceans of Europa and Enceladus in the outer solar system.

“Being able to collect samples in Antarctica was a unique opportunity to connect field exploration on Earth with questions about life elsewhere in the solar system. For me, this research is exciting because it helps bridge the gap between what we can study directly in Earth’s polar oceans and what future spacecraft may encounter when exploring icy ocean worlds such as Europa and Enceladus.” - Mariam Naseem

Join us for Dispatches from Space! 🛰️👩‍🚀

All members are invited to join us for an extraordinary edition of Dispatches from the Field — The Explorers Club’s signature global program designed to transcend geographical boundaries, connect our international chapters, and forge deep bonds across our global community. For this special broadcast, we are expanding our reach past terrestrial limits to connect live with Dr. Jessica Meir — NASA astronaut, marine biologist, and a proud member of The Explorers Club.

We are checking in directly with Dr. Meir during her long-duration mission in low Earth orbit, where she will join us live from the International Space Station. Dr. Meir will dive into the core philosophy of discovery, the extreme limits of human performance, and how this unique vantage point reshapes our understanding of modern exploration.

Note: this live event is members-only, and only active members will be permitted into the call. A recorded version of the interview will be published after the event.

Active Members can register for Dispatches using the events feature in the Members Only App.

See you out there! 💫
