It’s Arbor Day & the trees in our parks are shifting into spring mode (finally!) Take a peek and read below to learn more:

Ornamental Cherry (Prunus)
Located on the corner of the 57th Street Plaza where the Promenade begins, this classic flowering tree draws the eye with its abundant pink blossoms. The tree’s showy blooms are not only a highlight of the season but also add color to the area, inviting visitors to pause and enjoy the scenery.

Serviceberry (Amelanchier)
Greeting Promenade strollers at the 56th Street Plaza, the Serviceberry dazzles park visitors with its delicate white blossoms in spring. As the season unfolds, berries appear in early summer—offering a sweet treat for birds and a lovely accent for those who pause to admire the scene.

Redbud (Cercis)
This delightful spring-flowering tree on 56th Street Plaza captivates with its dazzling lavender blossoms, bursting forth before the leaves emerge. The Redbud offers a tranquil spot to soak in the beauty of spring.

Honey Locust (Gleditsia)
The youngest of Sutton Park trees, just four years old, the Honey Locust lives on the north side of the 57th Street Plaza. This newcomer took root after its predecessor was toppled in a fierce storm. Happily, the Honey Locust continues to thrive, promising many seasons of shade and beauty to come.
