You can tell that Metropolitan Maltese Rescue is a New York City-based group that adopts to our local city and suburban residents when you get an update photo like this one from one of our graduates!
At the risk of alienating Metropolitan Maltese Rescue fans from other cities: Go New York, go New York, go!! 🏀⛹️♂️
Get ready for a game weekend, and TGIF.

Metropolitan Maltese Rescue loves to hear from our graduates. Those who have followed our group since at least 2025 surely remember our long-legged Salt, of Salt and Peppa fame. Salt, whose has been renamed Soy, sent a little update to his foster mom recently, in the midst of a series of rainy days ☔️, just to give a soggy and cheery “hi”!
Soy’s family loves him, and works hard with him every day to make him the best dog that he can be. Soy especially loves his new Maltese-mix canine brother/playmate, and continues to love being outside on walks.
For Soy’s sake and our own, and all dogs in general, let’s hope this weekend is not as soggy as last weekend. TGIF

Wow! This seemed to circle around fast: Metropolitan Maltese Rescue’s graduate Cooper, adopted out two years ago, has celebrated his 11th birthday! He is so well loved and cherished, and clearly celebrated as well. A life at the beach seems to suit Cooper extraordinarily well.
And do you know what also suits everyone extraordinarily well? Weekends! TGIF

Everyone who has a white dog knows that grooming or bath + white dog = precipitation. And that seems to be an inevitable and unwanted situation. Even when the grooming appointment is planned for a forecasted sunny day ☀️the weather always seems to change once the grooming appointment is made 🌧️.
This is why we were shocked to get an update on Metropolitan Maltese Rescue graduate, Roo. She was groomed, and not only did the day remain sunny and nice, so did the next day! We know our dogs are special and are magical, but we didn’t realize they could also be world record holders! Good going, Roo!
And good going, Friday. TGIF.

Every once in a while, Metropolitan Maltese Rescue has been contacted by a local shelter asking us to take a dog they deem to be a "Maltese" or "Maltese mix", and they send us a little thumbnail-sized photo of the dog in question. Based on their breed assertion and what we can see in the small photo, and if all other aspects provided are acceptable, we do tend to accept the dog into our foster care. Sometimes, upon arrival, we discover the descriptions given were accurate, and sometimes we discover we have taken-in a SUZY!
Suzy came to Metropolitan Maltese Rescue three years ago as a cute little dog of unknown heritage, with drop ears, scruffy white and beige fur, and an underweight body. As her diet and body condition improved, POP went her ears, and there they remain!
We recently got this photo of Suzy with a sweet little update from her adoptive "mom": "She has been a very good girl and a joy to have." And you know what? Maltese or not, this is why we do what we do - we find the best homes for the dogs who need one!
Also a joy to have is the weekend. TGIF.

We at Metropolitan Maltese Rescue like to hear from our graduates, even when the story is a sad one:
"It’s with great sadness that I share that Mini Cooper has passed, at approximately 14 years old. He’s now running free with his brother Romeo. I was lucky to adopt him on January 19, 2019. He came way along in these last 7 plus years. We ran agility, took scent work classes ,and went to agility, scent work and Happy Ratter trials together, where he earned some beginner level titles. We saw Kathie and Indie (also a Metropolitan Maltese Rescue graduate) at several Happy Ratters and Scentwork trials. I was proud of all his accomplishments, and we always had fun at the trials. We had so many fun memories together. Every summer, we went to New Hampshire and enjoyed our vacation on a lake.
Thank you for letting me adopt him and giving him his forever home with me. I miss him, but know he is running free with his brother Romeo. Cooper had another brother Zack for the last 6 months of his life."
Sweet, sweet Cooper. And his cute pictures bring us into a sweet weekend. Give your pets big hugs, and TGIF.
