Life Preservers Project
Our goal is to connect and collaborate with artists, fashion designers and our patrons in a meaningful way. Through various collaborations we hope to raise awareness for the victims of human trafficking and provide much needed funds to organizations such as GEMS and RestoreNYC as they work to provide the victims a new start for a safe and healthy life. Human trafficking is often misunderstood because pop culture has trained us to look for extreme scenarios as seen in movies like Taken or the idea of a white van pulling up in a parking lot.
But exploitation rarely looks like that.
More often, it unfolds quietly in everyday situations: controlling relationships, economic pressure, unstable housing, isolation from family or community, or someone slowly losing autonomy over their choices. These are realities that exist in neighborhoods everywhere.
When we only look for dramatic moments, we miss the subtle warning signs that appear long before harm escalates.
Understanding how trafficking actually happens helps us recognize risk earlier and support prevention efforts that protect people with care and dignity.
Awareness begins with learning.
Prevention begins with understanding.
Tomorrow, we’ll challenge some of the most common myths that prevent early recognition.

The UN Human Rights Council is sounding the alarm: nearly 40% of trafficking victims are children, and traffickers are using AI and digital platforms to expand their reach while avoiding law enforcement.
But it’s not just tech. Poverty, food insecurity, humanitarian crises, and war are creating the perfect storm for traffickers to prey on vulnerable children—especially girls. From forced labor to s*xual exploitation, child marriage, and recruitment into armed groups, the dangers are growing.
Even worse? Convictions for these crimes remain disturbingly low, allowing trafficking networks to thrive. We must push for better protection, stronger enforcement, and global action to fight this crisis.
