In an online press conference, Ilham Ahmed, a senior Kurdish politician in Syrian Kurdistan, said the new agreement with Damascus had prevented bloodshed, stating: “We prevented a genocide of the Kurdish people.” ... This is, of course, excellent news, but at the same time it is obvious that none of the fundamental problems between the Kurds and the central government in Damascus have been solved.
