Sudan: Human Rights Council must take bold steps towards accountability, preventing atrocities πΈπ© βοΈ
On 3 July 2026, the Human Rights Council held an urgent debate to discuss the situation in and around El Obeid, North Kordofan in the context of the ongoing conflict in the Sudan. Sudanese activist Noon Kashkoush delivered a joint statement on behalf of ISHR and other groups.

π¨: The United Nations General Assembly has overturned an archaic rule that forced the UN to return cash to States that paid their budget dues so late each year that the organisation was unable to spend it, despite being starved of funds for most of the year. The new rules provide that credits can now only be returned to Member States when βbacked by cashβ β that is, on the basis of the cash actually received. They also confirm an earlier decision that credits returned are deducted from any arrears that Member States may have.

Defending rights in unequal democracies π β
