Turtle Bay Tree Fund
Founded in 1965, by a group of concerned neighbors and activists that included Peter Detmold (Detmold Park) and James Amster (Amster Yards), the Turtle Bay Tree Fund is an all-volunteer organization that provides seasonal plantings in tree beds, and works to maintain the trees, flower beds, and enclosures. A Christmas present from New York City - the East Midtown Greenway is open! The beautiful extension that stretches from 53rd Street to connect at 60th Street is wide, with separate bike, running and walking lanes and plenty of trees and plants. A new vantage point from which to admire the UN, and the East River are added bonuses.
