📢 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸’𝘀 𝗜𝗔𝗧𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 ‘𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆’

IATI was pleased to hear rich and valuable feedback from UN agencies, IATI members and the wider community on how IATI can strengthen the quality, usability and interoperability of development and humanitarian data.

The consultations focused on proposals for a new 𝗜𝗔𝗧𝗜 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 - a tool to help publishers and users better understand the quality, coverage, timeliness, and usability of IATI data. The proposed Data Quality Dashboard will show 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Yemesrach Workie, IATI Executive Director, opened the consultation meetings, grounding the discussions in the IATI’s Strategic Plan 2026 - 2030.

Topics covered during the consultations:

✅ A new IATI Data Quality Dashboard
✅ A more robust set of Data Quality Metrics
✅ New Availability and Coverage dimensions
✅ Proposed changes to the Comprehensiveness dimension
✅ Clearer ways to help publishers understand what to fix first, and help users assess whether data is ready to use

Mark Brough, who is supporting the delivery of this crucial work, highlighted the aim of moving beyond a technical list of issues toward a clearer, user-centred approach:

“𝙒𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚.”

Participants raised important points on making the methodology practical and useful, including how to address coverage gaps, double-counting, country-level validation, and publisher alerts.
Looking ahead, IATI will hold further consultation calls on Downstream Publishing to explore how the IATI Standard can support network traceability, reduce duplicate reporting, and improve interoperability with platforms such as CRS, TOSSD, FTS, and UN systems.

Today in Nairobi, IATI member Germany Federal 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 (𝘉𝘔𝘡) showcased its innovative use of AI!

⚡During a lightning talk, 𝗕𝗠𝗭'𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗞𝗜+—𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜-𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 designed to instantly improve the quality of project descriptions published through the IATI Standard. Making this information clearer, IATI data on global development activities are more accessible and useful 👏

🤝 🤝 It was also great to see IATI members connecting at the event, including Abu Camara (Islamic Development Bank), Sebastian Sánchez Guerrero (APC Colombia) and Winnie Kamau (Association of Freelance Journalists).

Held under the theme "𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺", the festival highlighted the growing role of data in addressing global challenges.

As conversations around AI continue to accelerate, IATI's dataset—representing more than 𝗨𝗦𝗗 𝟯.𝟳 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 in development and humanitarian spending—provides a valuable foundation for transparency, accountability and smarter decision-making.
