When storms roll through, our crews roll out.

This week, our team responded to storm-damaged trees across the tri-state, helping homeowners safely remove hazardous limbs and restore peace of mind.

Storm damage isn't just about cleaning up what's already on the ground. It's about identifying hidden hazards before they become bigger problems. Every response starts with a professional assessment so we can protect your home, your family, and the long-term health of your trees.

A big thank you to our incredible crews who safely answer the call often before most people have had their morning coffee.

If recent storms left you with hanging limbs, damaged trees, or concerns about your property, we're here to help.

๐ŸŒณ Neighbors keep asking us: "Which branches actually need to come off?"

The truth is, it's not always the biggest branches that need attention.

Proper pruning is about improving the long-term health, safety of your tree & not just cutting it back. Our certified arborists look for things like:

โœ” Dead or dying branches
โœ” Broken or storm-damaged limbs
โœ” Diseased wood
โœ” Crossing or rubbing branches that can cause future damage
โœ” Limbs that create safety risks for your home, driveway, or pedestrians

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is over-pruning. Removing too much of a tree at once can increase stress, reduce its ability to produce energy, and make it more vulnerable to pests and disease.

If you're wondering whether your trees need pruning, we're happy to take a look. Our certified arborists provide free consultations and can recommend the right approach based on your trees' health, species, and long-term goals.

One of the most valuable services we provide isn't removing trees. It's helping preserve them.

This week we received multiple requests for tree health assessments and preservation recommendations related to construction, renovations, and long-term property planning.

Through detailed arborist evaluations, ANSI A300 informed care plans, structural support systems, and cabling solutions, many trees can remain healthy assets for years to come.

For property managers, municipalities, HOAs, and commercial property owners, tree preservation often protects both landscape value and project objectives.

A healthy mature tree can take decades to replace. Preservation should always be considered before removal.

For decades, the majestic American Elm was one of New York Cityโ€™s signature trees โ€” until Dutch Elm Disease (DED) devastated the population in the late 20th century. Today, through ongoing monitoring, advanced treatment methods, and the dedication of arborists and park officials, these iconic trees are making a remarkable comeback.

Almstead is proud to be part of that effort by inoculating American Elm trees throughout New York City against Dutch Elm Disease using DutchTrigยฎ, an organic and biological control treatment. This innovative vaccine contains spores of a specific strain of Verticillium fungus that stimulates the elmโ€™s natural defense system, helping the tree resist infection from the DED fungus.

The treatment is administered through a handheld microinjection system designed to deliver the vaccine directly into the tree with minimal impact to the surrounding tissue. When combined with regular monitoring and proactive care, this approach can play an important role in preserving valuable elm trees for future generations.

If you have elm trees on your property, contact your Almstead arborist to schedule an inspection and discuss whether preventive Dutch Elm Disease treatment is recommended.
