Interesting. Not passed fully yet. But the speed limit would be 10mph on a sidewalk if pedestrians are within 50ft.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: E-BICYCLE SAFETY ACT PASSES
Florida’s 2026 legislative session has brought significant changes for people on bicycles. HB 243 (CS/SB 382) has officially passed both chambers of the Florida Legislature. This legislation establishes a new legal baseline for operating behavior and data collection across the state.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>>> Yielding and Signaling: When on shared pathways not adjacent to a roadway, a person operating an electric bicycle must yield to pedestrians and give an audible signal before passing.
>>> Speed Management: On sidewalks or pedestrian areas, the speed limit for an electric bicycle is now 10 mph if a pedestrian is within 50 feet.
>>> Enhanced Data: Law enforcement will now begin formal crash data collection for micromobility devices to better inform future infrastructure and safety policy.
>>> Task Force Creation: The Micromobility Device Safety Task Force is being established to recommend further improvements to Florida’s safety framework.
OUR VIEW
This bill is a starting point for safer interactions in shared spaces. While it sets new rules for people on bicycles, the Florida Bicycle Association remains committed to advocating for the low-stress, separated infrastructure that truly prevents crashes and protects all road users.
STAY ENGAGED
We will continue to represent your voice as the new safety task force begins its work. Thank you for your continued support in making Florida safer for everyone on a bicycle.
