ππ Thank you to all of the incredible teachers who joined us at the New Canal Lighthouse for our Coastal Land Loss Professional Development Workshop!
During the workshop, teachers explored the causes of coastal land loss, learned about solutions to help restore and protect Louisiana's coast, and took home classroom materials to help students build and test their own models of the Mississippi River. By experimenting with diversions, levees, and other restoration features, students can see firsthand how these tools shape our changing coast.
Thank you to the dedicated Kβ12 teachers from across the Pontchartrain Basin for investing your time in bringing coastal science into your classrooms. Together, we're inspiring the next generation of coastal stewards! ππ
Interested in joining a future teacher workshop? We'd love to have you! Email [email protected] to learn about upcoming professional development opportunities.

Join us in taking the pledge to reduce plastic waste and help keep our environment and waterways healthy.
Plastic can make its way into Lake Pontchartrain through many different pathways, affecting wildlife and the natural beauty of the ecosystems we all enjoy. Over time, larger plastic items break down into tiny microplastics that can remain in the environment for years. π§π
This month, challenge yourself to cut back on single-use plastics! π«π₯€ Choose reusable bags, water bottles, and other sustainable alternatives whenever you can.
Every small change adds up. Together, we can make a positive impact for our community and help keep Lake Pontchartrain clean and beautiful for generations to come. β»οΈπ
Take the pledge and join us for Plastic Free July!
