(New Orleans Women & Children's Shelter) Outreach is an LSU-HNO student-run program created to improve health care and education for families in poverty in New Orleans. Through educational programs and health clinics, we aim to encourage New Orleans women and their children to take-charge of their health while transitioning to self-sufficiency. for more information on how to get involved! We encourage volunteers to come to NOWCS with us and see first-hand the families we help. All LSU-HNO students (med, PA, PT, OT, pharm, nursing, dental) can volunteer to teach a health education program or devote a Wednesday evening to working amongst other inter-professional students in the NOWCS Clinic. LSU doctors, nurse practitioners, and dentists can volunteer to oversee a clinic. Other resources are always appreciated. Chateau D' Orleans is the new location for the NOWCS Outreach program. LSU Health Science Center students are implementing the NOWCS curriculum at this low income housing apartment complex in New Orleans Parish (2020 S Liberty St, New Orleans, LA 70113). Students provide monthly educational classes for adult residents and fun learning activities for their children. Resident participation has been excellent since starting the program in May 2017. But what if I'm not involved in healthcare? Volunteers (babysitters) are welcome to help at Thursday classes and Saturday Clinics. Contact us! We are currently fundraising to expand our number of health education programs and clinics. So far our classes have provided CPR training, cervical cancer prevention information, yoga and Zumba classes. And many more upcoming classes; cooking tutorials, mental health and parenting resources, and a self defense course in addition to our usual oral hygiene and women's health clinics. Please consider donating to the N.O.W.C.S. Clinic; we need your help with our busy semester ahead!

Thank you to everyone who joined our yoga class last week at NOWCS, and to our awesome instructor Lydia Rewerts! We can’t wait to celebrate at our annual holiday party tomorrow at 6pm!

Using this attached Amazon Wishlist, you can donate to a great cause and students can also receive 1 CS hour per $10 donation (max 3 hours)! Please consider donating bedding first as it is currently the highest priority!
