Senior Michael Lawton went out in style as he had 15 saves to help No. 2 Guilford defeat No. 4 Fairfield Ludlowe 9-2 to win Saturday afternoon’s CIAC Class L boys lacrosse championship at Rafferty Stadium.

Lawton and the Grizzlies’ defense shut out the Falcons for the game’s final 29 minutes, 18 seconds.

It was the second straight state title for Guilford (18-4). It won its first in Class M last year.

The Lyman Hall baseball team claimed its second straight CIAC Class L title on Sunday at Palmer Field, defeating No. 2 seed Bethel 11-1.

The top-seeded Trojans were once again led by sophomore ace Liam Laffin, who pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out 11.

It was Laffin's second straight championship game victory after throwing a shutout last year as a freshman.
