Health literacy is the ability to effectively understand and use healthcare information to make informed healthcare decisions and follow instructions for treatment.

87 MILLION American adults have low health literacy, which costs us upwards of $238 BILLION per year due to ineffective healthcare.

The US healthcare "system" is so complex that it requires an advanced health literacy to effectively navigate.

58% of African Americans had basic or below basic health literacy compared to 28% of non-Hispanic Whites.

This means that there are at least 78.9 million Americans who cannot get effective Healthcare in the US.

This is not okay.

Why would that ever be okay?

6 Ways to Increase Your Productivity!😊 This is something that I have struggled with for quite some time as someone with ADHD and especially as a first generation student who had a lot of other things to worry about than homework and timeliness (oh intersections).
1. TIMING TASKS AND BREAKS: Our brains love a good game and will give you optimal focus when there is a targeted and dopamine rich goal ahead. Using a Pomodoro timing system where you switch between 5-20 minutes of hyperfocus and 1-5 minute breaks is like a big fun dopaminergic game for your brain.
2. DO THE MOST INTERESTING THING LAST: We've all convinced ourselves that we can just add a little to an interesting project or just play a little of a game we're excited about. But truthfully, your brain will be so doused in dopamine at that point, switching away can be nearly impossible and, even if you are able to, you will likely feel trained and unmotivated.
3. BUILD SYSTEMS THAT MAKE SENSE FOR YOU: Honestly, if it doesn't work for you to do the dishes at night after dinner...do them every morning. Work past the perceived judgement, it'll get easier when you realize your way works better.
4. NEVER USE FEAR OR PUNISHMENT: I won't go so deeply into this now because I want to make a separate more in-depth post on this later. Generally, fear does NOT promote thinking, safety does. And punishment will only get you into the habit of fearing to put forth effort.

5. PLAN AROUND TIME-BLINDNESS: It's going to happen, there's enough past evidence that it will. Planning for it is not weak, it is responsible. If you think it'll only take 10 minutes, plan for 40!

6. START YOUR DAY WITH REWARDS: Not the most interesting rewards! But starting your day with small accomplishments can increase your dopamine levels and make it easier for you to take on more complex tasks later on!
