Black women anchored the very first celebrations with joyful community feasts, hand-sewn red garments, and powerful storytelling that kept the spark of freedom alive. By fundraising for safe community spaces and organizing generations of remembrance, these pillars of strength paved the way for modern trailblazers like Dr. Opal Lee. Today, we lift up their names, their enduring joy, and the revolutionary spirit that continues to guide us.
