Purple Goat Ranch

The Purple Goat Ranch became official in 2017 with our first rescue goat Knuck Knuck. Rejected by his momma, he was a bottle baby with a variety of disabilities who stole our heart. Coupled with many requests of “Grammy, will you get me a horse” we decided it was time to find property. We want our grandkids to grow up knowing the country life, animals and all. Usually we post heartwarming and goofy pictures of all of our animals. Today - a day in the life - was very different. One of our longhorns, Lil' Respect, got her horn stuck in our special longhorn hay feeder. She must have stood there for a while until she gave out and collapsed. Our guess is she was down for two plus hours.

The Lord was with us today. Lil' Respect was stuck under the weight of a 400 lb plus hunk of metal, covered in hay.

Long story short, three people were here and blessed us with their strength to help Bryan lift the hay thing. Then they helped us call vets and massage legs to get blood flowing. They helped is run for buckets of water to pour on her to cool her off. They helped us get straps under her to pull her up with the tractor as she was starting the bloat. Huge shout out to Carlos, his son and his friend.

Then, another blessing. Blanco Vet came out. We are out of their territory but they knew the situation was dire. The vet tubed Lil' Repsect and gave her all sorts of medicine and electrolytes.

She is going to live. That is a miracle as we have learned once cows are down and cannot get up, that is more often than not the end of the road.

Today was heart attack, hustle, teamwork and thank God, survival.
