So this is my first experience with Fallout 76. The thing I was most excited about for 76 was the same thing I was most excited about with fallout 4: the fact that I could build and this time I could build a settlement with friends. Prior to playing, I had chosen a small island in a river North West of Vault 76. So I made my character, and since you can change your character’s appearance at any time in the game that took a lot less time, and ventured out into the world. Unfortunately, I skipped the main quest and made my way to my island. Along the way, I got used to the new vats system that I found most effective for smaller targets. I killed Ghouls and avoided high level super mutant patrols along the way. When I finally got to my island (the map is just massive), I was informed that I had discovered "Death Claw Island.” My first thought, after not seeing any death claws, was that I could still make camp. Then a death claw popped out of the ground so I ran...screaming. Its on my Mixer stream @ LordHalliday. Then dead set on making a camp, I chose a mountain path to the East (really far East). I wasted even more time walking all the way there, ignoring side quests as they popped up. I did finally get there and managed to make camp. Unfortunately, I learned almost everything was locked until I was educated on how to build a generator. Which made sense. So, finally, I decide it would be best to follow the story. Right away, I learned the main quest was sort of a long, subtle tutorial. I also learned that a game that shows you its story telling substance from notes and holo tapes really suffers when you’re partaking in the multiplayer group chat. Several times I had to give my group chat a heads up for radio silence so I could hear why I was collecting drinking water. Overall, I’m excited to play for longer periods of time. I didn't feel I had the time to read every note and listen to every tape in my four hours of designated beta time. In fact, for the rest of the game, I think I will play by myself to experience the world and save the multiplayer/camp building for my end game experience. For more Fallout 76 game play, follow me on Mixer @ LordHalliday. As always if you liked what you read, please like and share to spread The Reality Escape mission. Stay tuned for future tourneys.
