This week's featured flower is a flowering shrub called Mountain Laurel (Kalmia latifolia). It is a flowering evergreen shrub of the heath family and is native to Eastern U.S. It grows to about 3–18 feet in height and has oval leaves. The rosy, pink, or white flowers appear in large clusters above the foliage. The shrub is popular in landscape plantings largely due in part to the uniqueness of the flower itself. You've probably seen these around the last few weeks as they bloom in late May to early June.
