Layout should always come first. That is what determines how the space functions. Flooring follows because it sets the base for everything else. Then, materials like countertops and backsplash. Color comes last.

It is much easier to adjust paint than it is to redo a layout.

When the order is right, the entire space feels more cohesive and intentional.

The layout allows for uninterrupted flow, and each piece of furniture is scaled to fit the room rather than fill it. Materials are kept consistent to maintain a calm, cohesive look, and I’m intentional about what gets included and what gets left out.

That balance is what keeps the room feeling functional without feeling busy.
