First Light at First Nederland

Last night was our Celebration Dinner where we celebrate all the accomplishments our children and teens have made. It completes our 13 sessions for this season. This year we have seen so much growth in our attendees. Thank you to the parents and loved ones that have entrusted us with these kids and thank you to the volunteers that have poured the love of Christ in to each of them each week. Our next sessions will begin in October. Even though our session is over we will be praying for those that have attended and those that God will bring to us for our next season. Thank you Heather for getting some pictures of our event.

Our youngest kid’s group had a wonderful time last night and enjoyed some fall crafts.

Anger is one of the many stages of grief and learning how to express and handle it in an appropriate way is so important. Our kids's groups have a great reminder of what to do first, pray!

Our kid’s groups have been busy the past 2 weeks. Last week, fall leaves to represent changes in our lives and this week, paintings of dandelions to represent wishes and prayers. Thank you to all the volunteers who put so much into making this a special time!

This week, our children were surprised by a special visitor. Sunny, who is an emotional support dog, spent the evening with our children's groups. The children loved it and the adults did too!

Last night, our teen group learned they are not alone in their emotions and that emotions can make us feel crazy, like the web of yarn they created. Thank you facilitators for making such an amazing illustration to help them understand and share these emotions.

Last night our halls and rooms were filled with those who have lost and those who have answered the call to walk beside those who are grieving. There was conversation, tears and yes some laughter. There is just something about sharing our deepest hurts, memories and fears that bring healing.

“He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

What a great night! We got to share information about our free grief groups, watch the helicopter arrive, were serenaded by the Bulldog Drum Line, and visited with so many friends in our community. Thank you City of Nederland for putting on such a wonderful event!
