In close dialogue with the Microtonal community’s current concerns, this paper offers my technical examination, critical stance, and potential optimizations on the intersection of music and AI in microtonal domains—focusing on Generative Pre-Trained Transformers such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT use, alongside close readings and analyses of Koan, auditory illusions, and paradoxes. I share a brief sketch of my major theory that I have been developing out of my doctoral work on materialism, multiplicity, chaos, vibrational forces, and dimensions as opposed to common generative systems and scalability methods. Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint (1987) is such a gem! In fact, this particular movement is one of the most disorienting pieces in the repertoire—if you really count every line in your mind while playing. There’s a surprise smile at the end, keep watching (I’m generally grumpy). As always, I make these deliberate messes at the end of the pieces I play—promise, not in concerts! Or… 🙄🤓 Not for this piece, it is very secial forme. And the original Pat Metheny version—he’s brilliant. First shot today, not so bad considering I haven’t touched it in ten years since my time at Cornell. I can’t imagine what it’d sound like with a bit of production polish and separate channel distribution. Next challenge! I composed today a new short piece for my latest obsession what I call “the Lower String Guitar.” It will be exciting working on an amplification setup and spending time on the filter and eq, these layers of modes, spectra, and noise transformations will be quite surprisingly vibrant for the ear.
