🚨 HUGO - SCHEDULED FOR EUTHANASIA SEPT 14th @ 2PM 🚨 The notes in Hugo’s file paint him as “aggressive.” They describe him barking, growling, and charging. The reporting party also stated that Hugo likely doesn’t get along with their dog—but we don’t know the situation, the environment, or what really happened outside of that one account. What those same notes also say is that Hugo displays avoidance behaviors: turning his head away, diverting his eyes, retreating to the back of the kennel when other dogs approach. That isn’t true aggression—it’s fear. A dog showing us he feels overwhelmed and doesn’t know how to cope in such a stressful environment. Sadly, instead of being updated, those first impressions became his permanent label. When I visited Hugo yesterday, I didn’t see an “aggressive dog.” I saw a boy who walked right up to the front of his kennel, calm and eager for connection. He was attentive, gentle with his eyes, and showed not a single ounce of hostility. Just a sweet face, quietly pleading for someone to see past the unfair mark he’s been given. Hugo has been sitting here since August 28th, and with his “behavior” note, his time is running out.
