40 today. As a friend and fellow small business owner recently said to me, “Welcome to the 4th floor!”

My analogy-loving brain lit up. I love the message it conveys—that life continues to elevate as we grow older.

It resonates deeply because, truthfully, I didn’t expect to be here a decade ago. I entered my 30s as a new mom with big dreams of leading clinical services at a residential treatment facility. But motherhood, especially in that first year, brought me to a reality I never saw coming. I battled postpartum psychosis, followed by a severe mood disorder that shook me to my core. When I wasn’t fighting to hold onto reality, I was drowning in shame.

With time, treatment, and unwavering support, I began to heal. But I also started to reevaluate everything—not just what I was doing, but how I wanted to move forward.

Home became my sanctuary, the foundation for both my recovery and the reimagining of my personal and professional life. I developed a deep appreciation for how a peaceful, functional space can support healing and stability. From that place, an unexpected path emerged: entrepreneurship.

Professional organizing and small business ownership were never part of my original plan, but they became the perfect blend of my skills, experiences, and passions. Now, I help other women create spaces where they feel safe, supported, and empowered. Turning my pain into purpose has been the greatest privilege.

Running a small business is definitely not for the faint of heart. One day, you’re trying to catch your energetic 75-pound child running full speed toward you without falling over. The next, you get to embrace the hug and the pride of remembering, “I made this happen.” It fuels my nurturing, creative, challenge-seeking soul.

Looking back, I see just how much I’ve grown—not just in resilience, but in confidence and the ability to embrace change.

The best part? The incredible women I’ve met along the way. My clients, who trust me to walk alongside them in moments of challenge and transition. Colleagues and fellow small business owners, who share their strength and wisdom. It’s a powerful, inspiring community.

As I step into this next decade, I’m looking through a wider lense—exploring ways to increase education, advocacy, and accessibility to people with chronic disorganization. Is there a branch of HOMEWELL at a clinical practice? Could a non-profit arm be in my future?

I don’t have all the answers yet, but the view from here is pretty great.
