This industry is all about passion, but let’s be real rushing in isn’t always the answer. Experience is your secret weapon, so don’t underestimate the power of learning from someone who is seasoned.

Think about shadowing someone whose career path inspires you! It’s okay to start somewhere and soak up every bit of knowledge you can. Being your own boss is so much more than a fancy chair or a trendy suite. It’s about strategy, systems, and building & managing a GREAT team!

Full disclosure: I had a huge advantage starting out thanks to my parents who supported me with equipment and education. I took many classes, tried different products, shadowed under the best makeup artists, educators, salon & boutique owners. I was surrounded by wisdom. Those skillsets & lessons are what keep me going strong today.

I’ve been in business for 10+ years and owned a salon & suites for 8years. I really love walking into my salon home & working with other beauty partners it’s really a great feeling. When I look back I think about what it took to get to this level. How did we survive COVID? Or any other hardship?

Running your own business can be a rollercoaster, not a smooth walk in the park. Yes there will be days where things appear to be running smoothly. It takes discipline, planning, and a whole lot of hustle in the beginning.

And let’s be honest, it’s not all about the Benjamins. There will be days where you make a few thousand and days when you make 0 (if you don’t have systems in place). If you’re in it just for the money, readjust your mindset. This is about building something you love, something that challenges you, and something that leaves you feeling fulfilled.
