The First 5 Napa County office will be closed on Thursday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

Florecer, our youth mentorship program pairs junior and senior high school students with mentors from various early childhood field professions to complete student internship hours. Students participating in the Florecer program can access college-level courses in child and family studies and education (CFSE) through Napa Valley College and financial assistance provided through First 5 Napa County to complete their first 12 units in CFSE courses. During our April meeting, students celebrated their completion of the Florecer program's 6-month journey alongside their mentors, families, and community members.

Kids Day is Saturday, April 13th! This free, family fun event will be at the Oxbow Commons park from 11am-2pm and their will be games, entertainment, food, resources, and more.

First 5 Napa County is proud to have been selected as a presenter at this year’s First 5 California Summit: 2024 Child Health, Education, and Care Summit: Stronger Starts: 25 Years of First 5. Lilea Duran will present on our Florecer, youth mentorship program.

The word Florecer means to bloom in Spanish. First 5 Napa County is utilizing youth mentorship to provide the next generation of early childhood professionals with the support needed to take root and bloom. Florecer focuses on youth mentorship to sustain and diversify our early childhood workforce. With Florecer, we are developing a workforce that is more reflective of our community’s diversity while creating a space where young people can see themselves in desirable and critical career paths. Participating high school students embark on a 6-month journey as a community; pairing mentees with mentors representing a wide range of professions within the ECCE field.

First 5 Napa County está utilizando tutorías juveniles para brindar a la próxima generación de profesionales de la primera infancia el apoyo necesario para echar raíces y florecer. First 5 Napa County Community Announcement

The First 5 Napa County Children and Families Commission announces the resignation of the current First 5 Napa County executive director, congratulating Lilea Duran on becoming the First 5 Association of California’s new Network Director. Over the past three years, Lilea has been a great voice and leader for underrepresented populations, honoring First 5 Napa County’s mission to convene and mobilize the community to use systems- and design-thinking to center and lift up the community’s young children, their families, and the providers who serve them. The Commission is excited for Lilea, knowing that her work around race, equity, diversity, and inclusion in Napa County will help direct the important work needed across all counties throughout California.

As Lilea’s last day will be March 27, 2024, the First 5 Napa County Children and Families Commission will be launching a search for a new executive director in the next few weeks. To support the transition, the Commission has identified former Commissioner and longstanding community leader, Michele Grupe as interim executive director through June 2024. Michele has agreed to support the Commission with finding the next executive director and will be instrumental in onboarding the new executive director in partnership with the Commission.
