Big news for Wolfe Center and Napa! As you may have read in the Register, as of July 1, 2014, alcohol and drug prevention and treatment services for youth, formerly provided by Wolfe, will instead be a program of Aldea Children & Family Services. Melding operations in this way to create a seamless behavioral health model of care will create a better experience for clients of both our organizations, since substance abuse and mental health issues are often closely linked. Until then, Wolfe Center will operate as usual, so keep checking our FB page! And thank you for your past and continuing support!

Criminal Neglect: Substance Abuse, Juvenile Justice and The Children Left Behind 04/07/2014

Not breaking news, but still shocking: Substance abuse was tightly linked with the offenses of 78.4% of young people involved with the juvenile justice system, according to a report released by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University, but almost none of them received treatment.
The 177-page report of the five-year study, Criminal Neglect: Substance Abuse, Juvenile Justice and The Children Left Behind, found that 1.9 million of 2.4 million juvenile arrests had substance abuse and addiction involvement, but only 68,600 young people received treatment. When will our society ever learn the importance of helping young people struggling with substance abuse, before they get into life-altering trouble?

Criminal Neglect: Substance Abuse, Juvenile Justice and The Children Left Behind This report documented the result of profound societal inattention to the needs of 2.4 million children engaged in the juvenile justice system and millions of others following in their footsteps.
