Strong family relationships help reduce the risk of abuse, addiction and suicide.

Ma*****na use comes with real risks, especially for young people whose brains are still developing.

It can affect memory, learning, focus, motivation, decision making, and mental health. It can also increase the risk of addiction, impact school performance, and make driving more dangerous.

National Ma*****na Facts Week is a good time to learn the facts, talk openly, and make informed choices that protect your health and future.

I love this list! Parents, calming yourself to respond with more wisdom, compassion and encouragement is the secret to world peace!

A regulated parent doesn’t sound perfect... they sound present, and there’s a difference, because presence isn’t about having the right words every single time, it’s about the tone underneath them staying steady even when the moment isn’t 💫

When a child is falling apart, their nervous system isn’t looking for a solution first, it’s looking for another nervous system that isn’t falling apart with them.

That’s what co-regulation actually is, it’s not a parenting technique, it’s biology. A child’s brain is still building the pathways for calming itself down, and until those pathways are fully developed, they borrow ours.

So the words matter less than most people think, “let’s figure this out together” works because of the steadiness behind it, not because of any magic in the phrase itself.

This is why the same sentence can land completely differently depending on who’s saying it and how. “Take your time” said with a sigh teaches something different than “take your time” said with an open, unhurried face.

Kids read our nervous system before they read our words, every time, which means the real work of regulation happens in our body before it ever reaches our mouth ✨

None of this means staying calm all the time or never losing your patience, because that’s not realistic and it’s not the goal. It means noticing when you’ve been pulled into the chaos, and finding your way back to steady, even if it takes a beat longer than you’d like.

Every time you come back to that steadiness, even after losing it, you’re still teaching your child’s brain what safety feels like.

Children don’t need parents who never struggle to stay calm, they need parents who keep returning to calm, again and again, until one day that steadiness becomes their own 💜

Day 2! Friends attending Solid Foundation Association mini camp today learned more calm breathing techniques, reviewed how limiting and supporting beliefs feel different in our bodies when we think and believe them, then focused on how we feel about making mistakes.

If we have a strong belief that making mistakes is a bad thing and we carry a lot of guilt, we lose self-confidence and want to give up trying.

But, if we understand that making mistakes is part of learning and growing, take responsibility, fix what we can and let them go, we are more patient with ourselves and feel our confidence grow quicker.

Tomorrow is the final day of this mini camp! We’ll be talking about how to overcome peer pressure by coming up with many ways to say “no” and creating a clear vision of who we are and what we want our life to be like. When we are clear about our values and goals, it becomes much easier to say “no” to peer pressure that could pull us in the wrong direction!

New kids are welcome! 3-4:30pm at Solid Foundation!
