Pack books in small boxes, because they can get very heavy and difficult to move in larger boxes. Your books should always be raised up from the floor of the unit, so moisture doesn't build up and ruin your books.
In order to protect your books' spines, they should be packed flat, and any empty spaces should be filled with packing material. Boxes should be stored on pallets or skids rather than directly on the concrete floor in order to prevent moisture absorption.
Consider putting items on pallets, plywood, or 2x4's to keep them off the floor of your storage unit. Be careful about covering your items in plastic to protect them, because plastic retains moisture. If you live in a humid climate consider using sheets, furniture covers, or mattress pads instead.
