Planks are excellent for building core strength (in addition to back, glutes, hamstrings, and shoulders) without putting excessive strain on the spine and hip flexors.

Like any other exercise, they can be scaled to meet the needs of one’s fitness level. Unfortunately, they’re frequently written off as “basic” or “too easy” and are left out of programs because of a lack of understanding of how to properly progress them.
