Sunnyside Plantation
Documentation supports that this house was built in the 1800's by Jacob Motte Alston, son of rice planters in the Waccamaw Neck. However, there is an 1800 plat that exists--referring to the property and oral history suggests the house may have been built by Gov. Joseph Alston for his bride, Theodosia Burr, who died in 1812. An old map shows "Sunnyside-on-Murrell's Inlet, A Seashore Residence" with property lines that run from the Waccamaw River to the sea.
