MOSQUITO AERIAL SPRAYING BEGINNING IN JUNE🦟

Aerial spraying for mosquitoes in targeted areas may begin on June 1, 2026. Spraying operations are conducted two hours before sunset and last until two hours after sunset, weather permitting.

Horry County Mosquito Control uses a variety of methods to help reduce mosquito population. They treat catch basins and ponds year round, truck-mounted spraying where necessary, and aerial spraying in targeted areas based on mosquito activity and weather conditions.

Truck-mounted spraying began on May 5; aerial spraying will reach areas outside of the truck routes. Spraying will only take place where treatment has been deemed necessary. Several factors determine whether treatment is necessary, including:

Sustained temperatures above 50Β°F
Inspections in response to service requests
Mosquito trapping in strategic locations

Horry County Mosquito Control continuously monitors conditions to determine when and where spraying is needed. Due to weather conditions, such as rain, wind and temperature, spraying schedules must remain flexible. We are unable to provide specific notifications for truck routes, but planned aerial spraying is posted on social media and on the aerial mosquito spray map (located on the Stormwater website).

Horry County only uses products approved by the EPA and SCDPR. They pose minimal risk to humans and animals. For anyone wanting to reduce exposure stay indoors and close windows during spraying. In addition homegrown fruits and vegetables should be washed, scrubbed or peeled before eating.

To help keep our local honeybee population safe, beekeepers are encouraged to contact Horry County Stormwater to identify the location of their colonies. Residents of unincorporated areas of Horry County (outside city limits) may request spraying through the Horry County Road & Drainage Hotline at 843-381-8000 or submit a service request on the Stormwater website.
