Today we celebrate the ideals of freedom, courage, and resilience that shaped this country. But we also recognize that for many—especially those in the LGBTQ+ community—those ideals still feel very much out of reach.

Fear and uncertainty continues for people simply trying to live authentically and safely. We honor the promise of liberty not by ignoring these truths, but by continuing the fight for true equality—for everyone.

As fireworks light the sky, let’s remember that pride and protest often go hand in hand. We can celebrate progress while demanding more. We can love this country and still hold it accountable. Have a safe and happy Independence Day.

Friends, help us wish our vice-president, Michael Maupins, a happy birthday! We hope it's an amazing day!

Today, we honor Juneteenth — a powerful reminder of Black freedom, resilience, and the ongoing fight for justice. As an LGBTQ+ community, we stand in solidarity, recognizing that our movements for liberation and equality are deeply connected and stronger together.

One last thing before we take our annual break! We have to announce the winners of our awards!

This year's Veronica Paige Velour Award goes to Eric Hughes for his amazing work with the community and The Lavender Closet Project!

This year's Missy Lay Ally Award goes to Chris Warren. Chris has driven our parking shuttle since we began our annual celebration in 2024. He has also risked his church so that our community has a safe place to gather!

Congratulations to both of our winners. These were well-deserved and we are honored to give you these awards! Thank you for all you do!

Pride Day at the Zoo returns on Saturday, June 20! Join us as we celebrate love and family in all of their forms across the animal kingdom.

From 9 am to 2 pm, visit the Unseen New World Plaza to enjoy themed crafts, giveaways (while supplies last) and enjoy live music by Bryan Ruby from 11 am to 1 pm.

Plus, visit with the Nashville chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers to learn more about love in all its forms across the animal kingdom and check out special animal-made crafts available for purchase that support conservation efforts.
