Thrizer is a payments app for therapy-goers and mental healthcare professionals that makes out-of-network therapy more accessible. Individuals use Thrizer to pay a co-pay for out-of-network therapy instead of paying their provider's full fee and waiting for insurance reimbursement. We provide the financial infrastructure so that the flow of funds between patients, providers, and payers is frictionless, transparent, and lightning fast. We believe this allows us all to focus on what truly matters.

Bringing more mental health professionals in-network needs to go way beyond simply increasing reimbursement rates.

Compensating providers fairly is the first step, but here are two other reasons why it may not be enough to attract them:

Administrative load: It shouldn't take months to get credentialed or hours to get someone on the phone who can give you answers. Providers shouldn't be worried whether they'll get paid or if they get clawed-back.

If working with insurance takes away time and energy from providers, they will continue to search for other options to support their practice.

Lack of autonomy: Mental health is complicated because diagnosis and outcomes aren't easily measured. Insurance has way too much power in treatment plans and timelines.

If insurance continue to have a say in treatment rendering and medical necessity, providers will continue to search for other options to support their practice.

Payers will need to figure out how to accommodate both of these cases - else providers will continue to go out-of-network.

Especially when they realize it doesn't necessarily come at the cost of accessibility πŸ‘€

Insurance companies have way too much control in a patient's mental health treatment.

If you ever had experience with Residential and PHP level of treatment for mental illness, you will see this in action.

It is truly ridiculous.

Intensive care for mental health, is expensive. No doubt. It hurts the bottom line when that type of serious treatment is needed.

But it is often a lot easier to measure treatment necessity for physical injuries / symptoms than for mental illness. This gives the insurance company a lot more control when deciding how much to cover.

It is so stressful for providers to prep for their insurance reviews every week, often times just fighting for approval for just a few more days of treatment in the facility.

Time and time again people are forced to leave treatment before their care team recommended, because their insurance refused to pick up any more days of treatment. Because according to the insurance protocol / evaluation, the patients were ready for the reduced level of care.

It sounds crazy, but it's true - the random insurance case manager you are assigned often has more control in your treatment plan than the providers who treat you day in and out.

Here’s to a future where medical necessity is decided by those who provide the care.

Compatibility with your therapist matters. It’s known to be one of the biggest predictors of positive outcomes in therapy.

Their working style, expertise, personality - it all matters in your treatment!

It's okay to take the time to explore the fit with your therapist, communicate what works and what doesn't, and ultimately decide whether you think your provider is right for you.

This is one of the most unique aspects to mental healthcare - the dynamic with your provider matters a lot!
for your therapy sessions to save automatically and never wait for insurance reimbursements again!
