I’ve been working with several companies to improve their operational performance and culture. These firms are taking their feedback seriously and they realize how this is affecting their bottom line. I’ve identified a few learnings below that can help turn-around poor ratings:

1. A poor rating is an important symptom of real problems within the firm. This data should be leveraged to do an assessment to identify the drivers and set improvement programs into action.

2. Poor ratings are very costly to the business and will result in increased turnover, loss of top talent, low productivity, increased use of sick and personal time, low production/quality, etc.

3. Often, the HR department leads the correction of the ratings, however since the issues typically involve operational, management and culture, it's important to have all departments involved in the solution.

4. Too often, firms attempt to manufacture and incentivize reviews to offset the negative feedback. I’ve seen this backfire many times, resulting in lower ratings. Reviews should be genuine and reflect the true performance of the company.

Growth and improvement rarely come from staying in the same place and doing the same thing over and over. Innovation and new ideas are the lifeblood of successful companies.
