✂️ 11 Days Until We Cut the Ribbon on Our New Men's Shelter!

Eleven days from now, MCREST will do something we have been working toward for years. On Wednesday, July 22nd from 11AM to 1PM, we will cut the ribbon on our new permanent Men's Shelter at 215 South Main Street in Mount Clemens — and we want you there.

***Please note that this event is not the official opening of the shelter; that milestone is coming very soon after on an unpublicized date.

This moment has been a long time coming. For nearly four decades, MCREST has served men, women, and children experiencing homelessness in Macomb County. Our Men's Program has been a cornerstone of that work — but for the first time in our history, it had to pause. A drop in partner churches left us scrambling, paying for motel rooms out of our own reserves while our savings dwindled. We refused to accept that as the end of the story.

We identified a building right next door to our existing shelter. We applied for — and won — a $100,000 Lowe's Hometowns Project grant. We navigated a zoning denial that told us our guests would hurt property values. We found another way. We hired a contractor. We launched a community fundraising campaign and raised an additional $100,000. Dozens of Lowe's Red Vest volunteers showed up on a single day to build beds, paint walls, and plant flowers. And now — 20 beds, 20 lockers, three showers, and a brand new bathroom are ready and waiting.
The ribbon cutting on July 22nd is a celebration of that journey — and a preview of what comes next.

But July 22nd is our chance to gather as a community, mark what we've accomplished together, and look each other in the eye and say: we did this.

The event will feature remarks from MCREST Executive Director April Fidler and Board President John Johnson, tours of the new facility, and the presence of local elected officials who have supported this work. Lunch will be catered by Vintage House in Fraser.

This is a free event and open to our donors, community partners, member churches, and anyone who has followed — or contributed to — MCREST's journey to this moment. Space is limited, so please RSVP as soon as possible.

We'll see you on July 22nd. It's time to celebrate.
