Polly has no shame, but she's very smart. Remember to id your pets, we can definitely help you with that, id tags are a great way to help get your fur baby back home! We will be offering powder coated metal id tags asap! Will keep you posted!

In light of the potentially dangerous weather headed our way, we are gearing up for the dozens of "I found a dog" calls we will get in the next few days. Fences blow open, dogs panic and bolt, etc. PLEASE make sure your dog has identification. I don't care if they're calm and have never escaped before- please take precautions. The reality is that we do not have space to house every loose dog in the City and our Officers exhaust every available resource to do field returns with loose and stray dogs. If your dog gets loose and has an ID, we will bring it home! If you don't have tags, write it on their collar; if they don't have a collar, write it on their tummy in Sharpie. This is very effective, temporary, and won't harm your animal. We want to make sure that pets stay with the people who love them and can return home as quickly as possible if they become lost.

Additionally, PLEASE bring your pets indoors until the threat has passed! Even if they have to stay in the laundry room or bathroom for a few hours, it's safer than being outside.

*Edited to add- Some of y'all are getting real righteous in the comments so let us say this- this suggestion was never intended to replace identification tags and/or microchips. The reality is that almost half of our city's population lives at or below the national poverty line and may not have the funds to go pay for the better options right now. This suggestion was meant to help in an emergency scenario with no prep time and no money. If you can afford better options, please do!
