Burned to the ground by a fire of undetermined cause in late 2007, the building and property was purchased by a concerned group of Haldeman and Hayes Crossing community residents. The Haldeman Hayes Crossing Community Foundation has set about to restore the historic building, originally built by the WPA in 1937, which played a vital role in educating so many in the community.
