🔧 Glass Block Window Installation: A Step-by-Step Guide

Tired of dealing with old, rotted basement windows that let in drafts and look terrible? Here's how I upgraded my rental property with glass block windows - a DIY-friendly project that adds security, improves insulation, and boosts curb appeal.

Materials you'll need:
• Glass block window panel (pre-assembled or individual blocks)
• Mortar mix
• Trowel and pointing tools
• Pressure-treated lumber (if header replacement needed)
• Drill with mixing paddle
• Safety glasses & gloves

The Process:
1️⃣ Remove old windows & clean the opening
2️⃣ Inspect & replace any rotted wood framing
3️⃣ Mix your mortar to peanut butter consistency
4️⃣ Apply mortar bed to the opening
5️⃣ Set the glass block panel firmly in place. Fill in mortar and smooth with trowel
6️⃣ Wipe excess mortar off glass blocks and clean with damp cloth

Pro Tips:
• Make sure your opening is level and square before setting the panel
• Work in small sections - mortar dries fast!
• Clean glass blocks with vinegar solution before installation
• Check local building codes for egress requirements

Total project time: ~3-4 hours per window
Cost: $150-300 per window (materials only)
