🎉 Let's Meet Our Finalists! 👏
Sydney earned 3rd Place at the Mountain Lakes Regional Competition, securing her spot at the National Civics Bee® Alabama State Finals!
For her essay, Sydney shared her argument that animal shelters are a necessity to the overall success and well being of a community.
"I think animal shelters can help my community a lot. I think animals deserve a place where they can feel safe, and I have noticed animals like dogs and cats on the side of the road or in little places like boxes or crates. The problem with having animal shelters could be severe crowding, leading to stressed animals and significant funding storage for operating and medical care. A big challenge could be vet care, food, and difficulty in finding foster homes. The animals have a shelter and a place to eat, while also getting to find a new home where they can be loved. That's how I think having animal shelters can reflect the founding principles and civics of my country."
We look forward to watching Sydney compete at the National Civics Bee® Alabama State Finals on July 16 at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Best of luck, Sydney—we'll be cheering you on!

Emori earned 2nd Place at the Opelika Regional Competition, securing her spot at the National Civics Bee® Alabama State Finals!
For her essay, Emori highlighted her concerns about the impact littering has on both her community and the environment.
"Littering in the Lee County community is an ongoing major problem. A problem so intrusive that it has impacted our roads, stadiums, parks, and unfortunately our schools. The community has developed and normalized an unhealthy behavior of littering and we must find ways to improve and put a stop to it now. In order to get littering under control and minimize the problem the community from school aged children to adults of all ages must display a sense of pride and accountability for their community to keep it clean."
We look forward to watching Emori compete at the National Civics Bee® Alabama State Finals on July 16 at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Best of luck, Emori—we'll be cheering you on!

Henry earned 1st Place at the North Jefferson Regional Competition, securing his spot at the National Civics Bee® Alabama State Finals!
For his essay, Henry discuss the political polarization happening in our community and our country.
"I would like to address this polarization by creating an opportunity for teens to learn and discuss current events in a safe and neutral environment. I think this could be accomplished by collaborating with the community to create a program where teens can practice the skill of discussing opposing viewpoints in a respectful and fun way. "
We look forward to watching Henry compete at the National Civics Bee® Alabama State Finals on July 16 at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Best of luck, Henry—we'll be cheering you on!
